Marceline History Highlights
- 1887 - The Santa Fe Railroad surveyed, plotted, and layed
out the town of Marceline
- 1888 - The first wooden depot in Marcline was completed.
- 1888 - W. A. Cannon established the first lumber yard in the city.
- 1888 - The Railroad Hotel was built.
- 1888 - The first newspaper of Marceline was printed by the Marceline Journal.
- 1888 - Marceline's first opera house was built on Santa Fe Avenue.
- 1889 - Kansas & Texas Coal Company opened their mine in Marceline.
- 1894 - The first classes attended the Central Grade School.
- 1900 - Marceline got its first fire engine.
- 1902 - Block 157 was converted to Ripley Park.
- 1902 - Opera house was moved to southwest corner of Kansas and Howell Avenues
- 1905 - Prairie Oil and Gas built in Marceline.
- 1905 - The construction of the Allen Buiding began.
- 1906 - The railroad constructed the Santa Fe Reading Room.
- 1908 - Park school opened for the fall school year.
- 1911 - Brick paving for Main Street began.
- 1912 - Santa Fe Country Club was built.
- 1913 - The brick depot was opened with a large celebration.
- 1913 - Santa Fe Lunch Room building was built.
- 1914 - The Marceline Sanitarium opened and changed merged into Mercy Hospital in 1915.
- 1915 - A high school building was built next to the Central School.
- 1915 - Marceline's Odd Fellow Lodge was built
- 1915 - Plans were approved for the concrete and steel viaduct over the Santa Fe tracks on Gracia Street.
- 1920 - Marceline Carnegie Library opened as a result of the Andrew Carnegie
Foundation building grant.
- 1922 - B. B. Putman Memorial Hospital was built.
- 1923 - Masonic Lodge building was completed.
- 1929 - The Central Grade School was torn down.
- 1929 - Construction of the current Marceline High School was started.
- 1929 - Uptown Theatre building was built.
- 1932 - Lincoln School building on Wells Street was erected by Floyd Newman.
- 1936 - The current post office was built.
- 1956 - Walt Disney was in Marceline for the dedication of the swimming pool, in the Walt Disney Municipal Park.
- 1956 - Walt and Roy Disney held the Midwest premier of the feature film, "The Great Locomotive Chase".
- 1957 - Cater Opera House was completely gutted by fire.
- 1960 - Walt Disney Elementary School opened.
- 1960 - Park School was torn down.
- 1963 - St. Francis Hospital was built north of town.
- 1968 - Country Club burned to the ground.
- 1998 - The world premiere of "The Spirit of Mickey" was held in the theatre.
